Chiropractic FAQ's:

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic health care is based upon the scientific principle that the central nervous system controls every single cell within our body. This model of health is based upon the body having the potential to heal itself. Chiropractic stresses the idea that the causes of many health problems begin with the body's inability to adapt to its environment. Chiropractic looks to address these problems by locating the cause(s) of the symptom(s), not just treatment of the symptom(s).

When the body has an interference to the nervous system which results in symptoms such as pain, tingling and numbness, this is known as Nerve Impingement Syndrome.

What is Nerve Impingement Syndrome?

Nerve Impingement Syndrome (also referred to as a subluxation) occurs when one or more of the joints of the spine is misaligned, putting pressure (or impinges) on a nerve. As our body communicates between our brain and our nervous system, “pinching” or interruption of this communication pathway causes pain, numbness, tingling and other symptoms. In fact, Dr. Chang Ha Suh of the University of Colorado writes “…a subluxation caused by Nerve Impingement Syndrome can reduce nerve impulses by 60%”.
From “Pro-Solutions for Healthy LivingTM”, Volume Two, Issue Four

What are symptoms of Nerve Impingement Syndrome?

Symptoms may include:
Headache - Fatigue - Sinus and Allergies - Mood Swings - Sleep Disturbance
Pain anywhere in the body - Numbness or tingling in hands and feet

What kind of education or training do Doctors of Chiropractic have?

Chiropractors receive an education that closely parallels medical doctor’s schooling, as they both devote a considerable amount of time in studies of anatomy, physiology and neurology and other foundational sciences. The main difference between the two study paths is that medical students heavily emphasize the study of prescription drugs, which students of chiropractic emphasize nutrition, wellness and other natural alternatives to drugs.

Doctors of medicine and chiropractic are well trained, and both treat their patients utilizing the skills of their profession. In fact, a number of health care clinics are providing both chiropractic and medical care for their patients.

Step 1: Detailed Consultation.

We take great pride in the fact we sit down with our patients to find out all the detailed information surrounding your condition so we can make an accurate assessment of what is going on in your body and your life… We know that your health is a mirror of your physical, mental and emotional state of being.

Step 2: Examination.

A physical exam is the next step. Your posture will be analyzed, a thorough evaluation of your range of motion will take place, as well as pertinent orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic tests will be performed.

Step 3: Radiographic study, if indicated

We may order x-rays of your spine in the neutral position from the front and side if the examination deems medical necessity. This will give us a chance to evaluate the disc spaces of your spine as well as the surrounding joints and anatomy. This will also help us assess if you have any disc degeneration and if so, the degree. If your previous doctor has x-rays of the affected area, we will request those x-rays for use during evaluation of your condition and to assist us in making a more accurate diagnosis.

Step 4: Diagnosis

We will diagnose and develop a plan of action with the goal of relieving pain, restoring function, and achieving lasting results. This may include a referral to another medical specialist for further evaluation and/or treatment if necessary.
