Move it to lose it.

Admin Vitality - Tuesday, August 30, 2016

One thing you will learn doing our Medically Supervised Weight Loss is that the best way to lose weight is to decrease our caloric intake and increase your activity level.  That sounds great in theory but changing those words into action can sometimes be difficult.  We all have struggled one time or another getting motivated to get up and move.  Life somehow gets in the way.   We all have those friends that make working out as much of a priority as they do eating, sleeping, you get the idea.  What is different about those people that workout consistently than those that don't?  To be consistent you have to find something that you enjoy.  Whether it is walking, running, weight training, or dancing you need to try different activities to find out what you enjoy doing.  For me it is walking/jogging.  If you have knee problems walking at a brisk pace can be just as effective as jogging.  I also enjoy group fitness classes where someone is instructing me on the correct posture and movements.  It can be very intimidating at first, when you are out of shape but trust me everyone in there has been in your shoes at one time or another.

Check out these great articles to help motivate you to get moving!

Diet or Lifestyle Change Its All Up To You!

Admin Vitality - Tuesday, August 23, 2016

Do you say you need to go on a diet or you need a lifestyle change?  If you picked lifestyle change your are more apt to have success in your weight loss journey.  I have been on a quest this summer for a lifestyle change and I will be honest it isn't for the faint of heart.   Full disclosure, I enjoy candy, diet coke, and Bojangles.  In no particular order.  I will be honest some days are better than others!  Vitality has one of the best Medically Supervised Weight Loss programs around and the first thing you will find out is that it is a lifestyle change.  You have to be willing to change your eating habits, commit to exercising in some form at least 3 preferably 4 days per week and be held accountable (in a good way) for everything you consume.

Accountability and support are key in any successful weight loss program.  If you have days where you slip up (and you will, trust me) you have a support system ready to help you get back on track.  Some people have triggers that cause overeating, stress mainly being the culprit.  Vitality will give you a journal to record all of your meals, or you may track your food on some great apps that are available.  Most often you can pinpoint "falling off the wagon" to something that may have happened in your personal life or job.  When you know what your triggers are then you can better prepare for them, for example I work late 2 days per week and in the past around 5 pm I would eat candy, or junk food to help give me that boost of energy until I got off at 7.  Now I pre-plan for those days and pack almonds, yogurt, or something healthy to get me over that hump.  Join me next time where I will be discussing exercise and how if this couch potato can do it you can too!

Cheers to being the best version of you!

How differentiate between different Fillers offered at Vitality

Admin Vitality - Tuesday, May 10, 2016

Question: What are the most common types of fillers and how do I know which one to get?

Answer: JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC, Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC versus Juvederm Voluma XC. To start it helps to think of the face in 3 dimensions and multilayered. There is the structural support (such as the cheekbones), the muscle layer, the soft tissue layer (fat and tissue contributing to volume) and the skin. Each injectable has different properties and works to achieve specific goals in certain anatomical areas. Here at Vitality we offer hyaluronic acid fillers, Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus and Juvederm Voluma XC. Hyaluronic (HA) fillers which are made out of a molecule naturally found in our skin means high compatibility with little to no reaction for the patient. These fillers are ideal for first time patients and can be injected almost anywhere you can think to add volume or shape. For example we can use these to enhance cheeks, nasolabial lines, lips, eyelids, eyebrows, and forehead lines. One of the greatest advantages is that HA fillers are the only category of fillers that is reversible by an enzyme, hyaluronidase, which can “melt” the filler almost instantly. Which has been revolutionary in treating patients with unhappy results.

To differentiate these HA fillers they are usually categorized in either heavy/volumizing or light/superficial. Juvederm Voluma XC is used for deep deposition for the cheek bones, mid face and the temporal hollow. The lip, lip lines and nasolabial lines require a lighter more superficial injection like Juvederm Ultra or Ultra Plus. Although there will be instances where a combination of these fillers will be used to achieve optimal results.

We hope this introductory information on fillers will answer some of your basic questions! Please call us at 828-322-1498 to set up a complimentary consultation with one of our accredited providers so that we can decide what filler/fillers are right for you.

Micro-Needling 101

Vitality Anti-Aging Center & Med Spa - Tuesday, December 01, 2015

You may have seen or heard about Micro-Needling in the news recently and we are extremely excited to offer this innovative technology here at Vitality.  Like most people you may not fully understand what Micro-needling is or what benefits you can expect from Micro-needling.  Micro-needling is a non-surgical technique that is applied to the skin after being prepped with a lidocaine gel to create numbness. The process utilizes a power handpiece to create tiny channels into the dermis of the skin, which initiates the body’s natural healing process to create collagen and elastin. The end result is to improve skin texture with reduction of the crepey appearance and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles, as well as diminishing the hyper-pigmentation of skin. This form of collagen induction is created by a mechanical force delivered to the dermis to allow improvement in acne pock marks and can weld stretch marks together by creating collagen.  You will start to notice your skin improving after a few weeks.  We recommend a series of treatments to get optimal results from Micro-needling.

Getting the Ink Out

Admin Vitality - Tuesday, September 29, 2015

So you did it!  Years ago, on a whim, you got that tattoo of Hello Kitty and now you regret it!  What do you do?  In this day of creams, lasers, dermabrasions, surgery, and cover ups how do you decide the best option for you?  Luckily for you there are options that range in price, number of treatments, adverse effects, and the dreaded pain!

Up until recently the best option we have had was laser.  Laser works by breaking up the ink and then your lymphatic system carries the ink away and is hopefully excreted from our body. The laser does not remove the ink from your body.  In fact,  there have been lymph node studies done that have revealed tattoo ink within the lymph nodes, but the clinical significance of this is still unknown. The easiest ink colors for lasers to remove are black and blue.  Reds, greens, and lighter colors may be more difficult.  Since the FDA does not regulate tattoo ink, some inks are different and tattoo artists will at times place additives in the ink, making removal a little more difficult.  Other factors that may affect the removal process are the depth of the ink, the age, and whether the tattoo was professionally done or not.  When undergoing laser removal, one can expect to have 5-15 treatments that range in cost from $200-$500 per treatment.  Results can vary. At times there is only partial removal of the ink, Unfortunately, leaving a less than desirable result with patches of ink still noticable. Adverse effects include scarring, hyper- or hypo-pigmentation.

Recently, the Eclipse Micro-Pen TR for tattoo removal came to market.  It is an innovative method to actually remove the ink from your skin and works on all ink colors.  There is usually complete resolution of the tattoo in 3-5 sessions.  The MicroPen TR utilizes a new technique called Mechanized Epidermal Tattoo Removal (METR) offering a safe and less expensive method to remove the unwanted tattoo. It utilizes a hand held device very similar to a tattoo gun.  The treatment combines very fine micro-needles that make very precise wounds in the tattooed skin while introducing a proprietary solution that coagulates the ink.  The treatment is done in a grid-like fashion, leaving healthy tissue between the treated areas decreasing inflammation and the risk of skin discoloration. The treatment is virtually painless.  Over the next 2-3 weeks small scabs containing the ink form and slough off leaving the skin with it’s natural pigment.  There is minimal, if any, risk of scarring and since inflammation in greatly reduced with this method the risk of hypo or hyperpigmentation is significantly decreased.  A patient will undergo a treatment every eight weeks until the tattoo is removed.

So, if you are one of those that wants to “get the tat out”, call Vitality today to learn more about this fast, safe, affordable, and natural method of tattoo removal
